With record levels of renting, interest in build-to-rent is strengthening to meet the demands of ‘Generation Rent’.
CACI produce a listing of the top 20 UK locations for BTR investment, based on the proportion of residents that are likely to rent.
Urban areas, with high populations of young people, feature highly. Perhaps unsurprisingly university towns such as Oxford, Nottingham, Manchester, Bristol and Exeter are all in the top 10.
The top location with greatest demand for rented properties was Oxford, closely followed by Brighton and Hove.
It is thought that some Urban areas simply outprice younger buyers and force them into the rental market. It is also likely that these areas attract those that only want to live in an area for a short amount of time.
The index is dominated by locations in the South and the Midlands, an exception to this being the University town of Edinburgh. London appears seven times, reaffirming its status as the UK’s leading City for BTR.
CACI’s top 20 locations for BTR are:
|District||Region||Likely to move %|
|2||Brighton and Hove||South East||26|
|6||Hammersmith and Fulham||London||25|
|12||City of London||London||24|
Katherine Rose, Prsim’s Director of Data & Advisory Services, said: “Great insight as usual from CACI. Interesting to see that the top five locations are all strong regional locations and surprised to see that only one London Borough makes it into the top ten. If you would like to know who your renters might be and what rents could be achieved in these locations Prsim is able to support with demographic and rent analysis. If you have a BTR scheme in any area of the UK Prsim would be delighted to provide you with a property management proposal.”
